Reverend, Doctor Steven A. Bailey, ND has practiced Naturopathic Medicine in Portland
since 1983. In Addition to his general family practice, he specializes
in fasting and immune support and works extensively with patients who have chronic
and terminal illnesses. Dr. Bailey lectures locally, nationally, and internationally
on a variety of medical topics, and is a frequent guest lecturer at naturopathic
colleges and conferences.
A strong historical and political perspective colors Dr. Bailey’s awareness. While
paying respect to the elders of traditional medicine, he stays abreast of medical
science and naturopathic medicine.

community/call-in audience). Dr. Bailey has been steadily involved as a radio host
and guest since 1987.

industry boards and committees and as legislative chair for the State of Oregon
from 1985 to 1987.

Host/Mentor to Doctors in Training. Dr. Bailey hosts doctors-in-training
through the college preceptor program. The Northwest Naturopathic Clinic, PC has been
the training ground for more than 300 new doctors entering their own path of practice.

Public Speaker/Guest Lecturer. Dr. Bailey has spoken at
national conferences, conventions and continuing education courses for the health
field. He is also active in local presentations on holistic, natural and spiritual
applications of medicine. Dr. Bailey is a frequent guest lecturer at local college
and community centers.

Steven Bailey received his doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine
from the national College of Naturopathic medicine (NCNM) in 1983. Upon graduation,
he received a rare award for community service, and was elected to the college’s
Board of Trustees, where he served as treasurer, then secretary until 1991.
Dr. Bailey earned his first degree in psychology in 1976.
He was the founder of Portland Habilitation Center’s union employment program, the
now multi-million dollar organization that employs disabled persons, at union wages
and benefits, in providing janitorial and maintenance services in local and government
facilities. Dr. Bailey’s program was the first in the nation to provide union employment
for the disabled.
Dr. Bailey regularly presents grand rounds to medical students,
a recent presentation showcased his own personal journey of an infantile-seizure
disorder as experienced with his own daughter. A story with a happy ending, Dr.
Bailey outlined the personal and clinical challenges of a parent faced with the
maze of concerns when medical intervention is most indicated.

This honor represents the culmination of theological study, personal commitment, community service, and a walk in grace with the divine.
Dr. Bailey continues his naturopathic practice, serving Body – Mind – and Spirit.

The 2010 American Association of
Naturopathic Physicians Vis Award was awarded to Dr. Steven Bailey.
The Vis Award acknowledges persons who represent the Vis, the Healing Power of Nature, as
demonstrated through their work, life, and community service. The Vis Award
recipients are naturopathic students, facility members, or clinicians who
exemplify the Vis Medicatrix Naturae by their understanding and application
of the Healing Power of Nature.
